Jack Burton Is Back With A BOOM! :: ‘Big Trouble In Little China’ Comic Announced!
“Just remember what ol’ Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, and the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big ol’ storm right square in the eye and he says, “Give me your best shot, pal. I can take it.”
-Jack Burton, Big Trouble In Little China (1986)
If you’re like me and you’ve watched the (many) years just fly by with hopes that John Carpenter’s Big Trouble In Little China would finally return to the big screen in a sequel, well, I’ve got some good news and bad news for ya. The bad news: still no dice for BTILC2. Sorry! But, never say never! The good news: Boom! Studios has just released a pretty telling promo graphic that indicates BTILC will be continued as a comic series.
The news broke two days ago with a tweet from The Goon creator Eric Powell –who’s signature is also featured in the above teaser– stating, “Oh, yeah. This is happening. & it gets better. More news Friday from
@boomstudios“! Today, being that Friday he referred to, I’m thrilled to say that he’s brought even more good news regarding the BTILC comic. Of most importance, John Carpenter has signed on as an “active consultant”, which should provide Eric (writer) and Brian Churilla (illustrator) that quintessential ingredient needed to cook up a fresh batch of campy action/adventures. I cant wait for the Pork Chop Express to finally arrive in the 21st century.
When we last saw Jack, he was truckin’ on into the stormy night, brimming with arrogance after having saved the world (in his mind). Little does ol’ Jack know, the horrific, wild-haired, fire-eyed, sewer monster has hitched a ride out back. Carpenter leaves us to ponder the ambiguous future of our clumsy anti-hero as the monster glares at us and howls with sinister intent. Fading to black, the credits roll in. It will be interesting to not only see what has become of Jack Burton after 28 years, but to learn of how he, once again, escaped yet another incredible scenario.
